How to install CloudPanel
Written for Ubuntu 24.04 from the official instructions. Run the commands as root and replace YOUR_SERVER_IP with your server's address.
- 1
Connect to your server over SSH
Use the IP address and root password from your welcome email (the server page has a Copy SSH command button). Windows 10 and 11, macOS and Linux all include an SSH client in the terminal.
Shell ssh root@YOUR_SERVER_IP - 2
Update and install the basics
CloudPanel's first step on a fresh server.
Shell apt update && apt -y upgrade && apt -y install curl wget sudo - 3
Run the CloudPanel installer
The installer is checked against a SHA-256 checksum before it runs. The checksum changes with new installer versions: if the check fails, copy the current command from CloudPanel's docs. This one installs with MySQL 8.4 (the docs list MariaDB options too).
Shell curl -sS https://installer.cloudpanel.io/ce/v2/install.sh -o install.sh; \ echo "8146dbe0a488e7088b04071b0c34d59aa0ab1fe9dcec382d395fd155c9e6c476 install.sh" | \ sha256sum -c && sudo DB_ENGINE=MYSQL_8.4 bash install.sh - 4
Create the admin user straight away
Open https://YOUR_SERVER_IP:8443, accept the self-signed certificate warning and create the admin user immediately: until you do, anyone who finds the page could.
- 5
Add your first site
Choose Add Site, pick the type (WordPress, PHP, Node.js, Python or static), enter your domain and issue a Let's Encrypt certificate under SSL/TLS.
After installing
- Ports80 and 443 for your sites, 8443 for the panel. CloudPanel suggests opening 8443 only for your own IP in its firewall settings.
- EmailOutgoing mail ports (25, 465, 587) are blocked by default on our servers. Unlock them with the mail add-on, or send through an email API or SMTP relay on another port.
- BackupsServer backups are not included. CloudPanel can send backups to remote storage; set that up.
