Don't lose a funded account to a dropped connection.

A single ISP hiccup, Windows reboot, or laptop crash during an open trade can violate a max-daily-loss rule and end a $100k+ evaluation. Your challenge doesn't care that it wasn't your fault. Put your platform on infrastructure that stays online through the entire evaluation.

Most failed challenges are technical, not tactical.

Talk to anyone who's run five or ten evaluations and they'll tell you the same thing: the trades that killed the account weren't the bad setups. They were the ones where something froze, disconnected, or rebooted at the worst possible minute. A VPS isn't about latency for prop-firm work. It's about not handing back the pass fee because your ISP had a bad Tuesday.

A single power blip can end a $200k evaluation

Home outages average 4–6 hours a year in the US and far more elsewhere. If yours happens while an FTMO trade is open, the account is done and the pass fee is gone.

Residential ISPs drop packets at the worst moment

News-release volatility is exactly when your consumer connection buffers. Missed stop-management on a Topstep account during CPI is a classic account-killer.

Rule violations that look like tech, really are tech

'Max daily loss exceeded' after a locked screen. 'Inactivity' flag when Windows Update rebooted. These are prop-firm case files, not hypotheticals.

Challenges run for weeks. Your rig can't be flaky for one hour of it

A 30-day evaluation is 720 hours of required uptime. Any home setup that averages 99.5% is losing 3.6 hours somewhere, usually the wrong 3.6 hours.

What actually breaks an evaluation.

Trading from home
Trading on GhostRDP
Windows Update reboots mid-London session
Update windows scheduled around your firm's active sessions
ISP router firmware push drops connection
Redundant uplinks, BGP-managed failover
Neighbor's leaf blower trips the breaker
N+1 UPS + generator backing every rack
Laptop lid closed → EA stopped → account failed
Instance runs 24/7 whether you sleep, travel, or work a day job
Cat unplugs the ethernet cable
Datacenter has no cats

Configured for the rulebooks that matter.

We know each firm's rules and the platform quirks that catch traders out. Support can pre-tune your instance for the specific firm you're on: timezone, broker bridge, EA license activation, the lot.

FTMO

MT4 · MT5 · cTrader · DXtrade

Common failure mode

Max daily loss + 10% overall. A disconnect during a spike can eat both.

Topstep

NinjaTrader · Tradovate · TradeStation

Common failure mode

Trailing drawdown resets on end-of-day equity. Missed EOD flat = failed account.

Apex Trader Funding

NinjaTrader · Tradovate · Rithmic

Common failure mode

Consistency rule + trailing threshold. One frozen chart at 8:30 CT can void the account.

The Funded Trader

MT4 · MT5 · DXtrade · Match-Trader

Common failure mode

News trading windows + max lot rules. Automation must not miss a session.

MyForexFunds successors

MT4 · MT5 · cTrader

Common failure mode

Weekend hold restrictions on some plans. Friday-close scripts must fire on time.

Earn2Trade

NinjaTrader · Finamark

Common failure mode

Gauntlet consistency check. A missed session breaks the min-trading-days rule.

Run your evaluation while you sleep, work, or fly.

Whether you're grinding a Topstep combine with a NinjaScript strategy or running a news-filter EA through an FTMO Swing plan, your platform stays logged in and executing. No need to leave a laptop running in the corner. RDP in from your phone at any time to check positions or adjust a stop.

Prop-firm-specific questions, answered.

Yes. All three explicitly permit VPS execution, and it's standard practice among traders who pass and keep funded accounts. Topstep and Apex specifically recommend a VPS for NinjaTrader-based evaluations because a disconnect during the trailing-threshold reset can wipe out an account instantly. FTMO allows any hosted execution as long as the trading itself follows their rules.

FTMO / The Funded Trader / most FX prop firms: MetaTrader 4 or 5, cTrader, and DXtrade, all Windows-native and pre-approved on our Server 2022 image. Topstep and Apex: NinjaTrader 8 with a Rithmic or Tradovate feed. We include the .NET runtimes, C++ redistributables, and Java JRE that these platforms need out of the box.

We run N+1 power, dual uplinks and 24/7 on-site staff, and we publish uptime at ghostrdp.status. In the rare case of a datacenter incident, our support team can migrate your instance to a healthy host in minutes. Critically, your platform reconnects automatically to the firm's server as soon as it's back up. That's usually the difference between a rule violation and 'trade continued as expected'.

Yes. MT4 and MT5 both allow multiple terminals on the same machine: different account numbers, different portfolios. The Funded Pro plan is sized for one evaluation + one funded account running side by side. Multi-Account is what most traders upgrade to once they're scaling to 3–5 funded accounts across firms. Rule of thumb: 2 GB RAM per active MT5 terminal running an EA, 1 GB for a light MT4.

For MT-based firms (FTMO, TFT, MFF successors), our London and NY4 nodes are within 5 ms of the broker bridges most challenge feeds actually route through. For Topstep and Apex (Rithmic / Tradovate), our Chicago node is on the same metro as CME Aurora, sub-millisecond to the matching engine. If you tell support which firm and account you're on, they'll place you in the right region on activation.

That's the entire point of the VPS. Your platform, EA, and pending orders stay live on our infrastructure regardless of what your ISP or laptop are doing. You can close the lid, hop on a plane, or ride out a storm. The evaluation keeps executing. When you reconnect via RDP from your phone or another machine, everything is exactly where you left it.

Yes. The VPS is yours to configure. If you start an FTMO challenge on MT5 and want to add a manual chart on TradingView Desktop, or pass the evaluation and switch to NinjaTrader for a Topstep combine, you just install what you need. Nothing on our side is locked to a specific broker or firm.

Pass the challenge. Keep the account.
